Acupuncture is a healing technique of Traditional Chinese Medicine that dates back as early as 200 B.C.E. Acupuncture treatment uses very fine, sterile, disposable needles inserted into the skin at specific sites (acupuncture points). The process of acupuncture is simple, research suggests that the needling process involved with acupuncture stimulates nerve fibers that send signals to the spinal cord and brain, which then releases hormones that alleviate pain and promote healing. The U.S. National Institutes of Health (NIH) and the World Health Organization (WHO) released official statements that support the use of acupuncture as effective treatment or therapeutic relief for various pain, neurologic, cardiovascular, respiratory, digestive system, eye, and musculoskeletal disorders or conditions.
During the initial exam a full health history is taken and questions are asked regarding your health, symptoms, and lifestyle. A physical exam is conducted, including vitals, pulse, and tongue diagnosis. Gathering this information enables the practitioner to effectively create a well-structured treatment plan. Subsequent visits also involve quick physical exams prior to treatment but are not as lengthy in time.
